Test Movie Review: Madhavan Steers an Uneven Drama to Safer Ground
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
S. Sashikanth’s Test starts off more like a lecture than a thriller — loaded with themes, star power, and noble intentions, but slow to engage. The first hour, despite the high-caliber cast of Madhavan, Siddharth, and Nayanthara, feels like an overlong setup filled with lukewarm domestic drama and cricket clichés.
It’s only when Madhavan’s character, Sara, makes a desperate move — kidnapping a cricketer’s son — that the movie finds its pulse. This sharp shift into a psychological face-off revives interest and turns Test into a tense character drama. Madhavan excels, portraying a man unraveling under pressure. Siddharth and Nayanthara provide solid support, though the script doesn’t always do justice to their arcs.
While the first act drags and suffers from unnecessary subplots, the latter half grips with its moral complexity and urgency. Test isn’t flawless, but it redeems itself in the second innings, making it a decent, if uneven, watch.
