Pechi: A Haunting Trek That Falls Short on Storytelling
Set in the eerie Kollimalai hills, Pechi follows a group of trekkers who unwittingly awaken a malevolent spirit after venturing into a restricted forest zone. Director K. Kumar crafts an atmospheric horror film with striking visuals, making the dense forest a character in itself. While the film avoids overused horror tropes, its execution falters due to a weakly developed backstory for its supernatural antagonist. Gayathrie Shankar shines in her role, and Bala Saravanan delivers a surprisingly restrained performance. Despite its unsettling moments, Pechi struggles to weave its horror elements into a gripping narrative, leaving the audience with more questions than chills.
